In 2017 we noted the 500th anniversary of the Reformation begun when Martin Luther challenged Church authority over the practice of indulgences. This event, along with its causes and outcomes, will be the topic for our study beginning on Sunday, February 3rd. For both Catholics and Protestants, the Reformation is arguably the most important single event in the last thousand years of Christianity. But as we will see, there were actually many smaller “reformations” beginning in the late Middle Ages and continuing for centuries. We will examine this interesting series of events to see both their historical importance and their continuing significance for the Church today.
