Funeral Reception Committee

About

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased. We understand how difficult this time can be, which is why we organize receptions at the church after funerals. Our compassionate members serve at the reception and provide prepared food to help ease the burden.

While we don’t have regular meetings, we welcome new volunteers who are passionate about supporting our parish. You can contribute by donating food or helping with reception duties. If you’re interested, please contact our Liturgical Coordinator, Stacey Gardner, at sgardner@stjosephcc.net. Your participation would be greatly valued.

Mother Teresa Ministry

Mother Teresa Ministry

The Mother Teresa Hospital Ministry visits and comforts those in the Richardson Methodist Medical Center by sharing the Catholic faith and bringing the Eucharist twice weekly to those who desire it. Patients from St. Joseph Parish who are in other hospitals will be visited if the Church is notified.

Ministry of Care Training, commissioning as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and yearly Safety Environment renewal are required for membership. The Medical Center also has specific requirements in order to become an official hospital volunteer. Ongoing training provides details of how to best minister to patients and promotes personal spiritual growth.

Patients in The Remington Rehabilitation Center are also visited weekly by Mother Teresa ministers.

A monthly schedule is sent to active members. Meetings are held as needed two to three times a year. Monthly hospital Pastoral Care meetings are also available. Individual training is done on a one-on-one basis as new volunteers join the ministry.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

About

Love thy neighbor is at the heart of what we do at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. We believe in the dignity of each person; we are called to honor their dignity in our actions. When our neighbors fall on hard times, we’re here to help, regardless of income, color, creed or circumstance. We serve our neighbors not because they are Catholic, but because we are.

We meet bi-monthly in a prayerful setting of friendship to discuss providing Christ’s love to the poor and those in need.

Stephen Ministry

About

The Stephen Ministry assists people who are experiencing a crisis or trial in their lives by providing a one-on-one presence and listening while allowing the Lord to work through us.

Prayer is a centerpiece of this work, along with active listening and asking questions. We provide ongoing visits with persons who need such assistance. Our ministry is strictly confidential and ministers are continually supervised and receive ongoing education.

If you would like to walk with others who are in a time of trial and become a Stephen Minister, you must complete an application that is followed by an interview and discernment to select new candidates for this ministry. The candidates undergo 50 hours of classroom training prior to becoming Stephen Ministers. Training is provided on topics such as active listening, confidentiality, depression, suicide, divorce and other related topics.

Meetings for Stephen Ministers are the first and third Mondays of the month at 7:00 p.m.
