“Ah, Lord God!” I said, “I know not how to speak; I am too young.” But the Lord answered me: “Say not ‘I am too young.’ To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak.” — Jeremiah 1:6-7
About
An Altar Server is a young person who assists the priest at Mass and other liturgies of the Church. The ministry of Altar Server is open to all Catholic boys and girls who have reached the eighth grade in school, have been Baptized and received First Communion, and is a registered parishioner at St Joseph.
Training and formation for the ministry of Altar Server is offered several times a year. The formation involves learning the movements, gestures, and other skills required for serving at liturgies, as well as gaining a deeper understanding and knowledge of the Mass.

The Candle Ministry is the perfect opportunity for people who like to serve St. Joseph parish in a quiet behind-the-scene setting. Our teams of Candle Ministry volunteers clean the votives and replace the candles at each of our shrines to ensure the availability of this devotion for parishioners. This is a wonderful opportunity for prayerful reflection as you perform an essential service for the parish.
Each volunteer is scheduled approximately twice a month.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another, singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. — Colossians 3:16
“Music should assist the assembled believers to express and share the gift of faith that is within them and nourish and strengthen their interior commitment of faith.” – “Music in Catholic Worship”, Bishops’ Committee on the Liturgy
Meaningful music for worship, that everyone can participate in, is vital to experiencing life-giving, faith-building, unifying celebrations. All who participate in parish music ministry share the responsibility of making this vision a reality. This is accomplished by developing their gifts, committing to rehearsing, and “full, conscious and active” participation in the liturgy.
Who should be in music ministry? Those with musical gifts, who love to sing and make music with others and can commit to attend a weekly rehearsal and Mass. Choral experience is helpful but is not required. For instrumentalists, an intermediate level of proficiency is required.
If you are interested in joining the music ministry as a choir member, now is the time to do so. Rehearsals will begin the first week in September. The ability to read music is not necessary; however, experience singing in a choir is helpful, as well as being able to match pitches and carry a tune.

Eucharistic Ministers
About
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMs) assist the priest and deacon in reverently distributing the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ, at all masses for all Sundays, holy days of obligation, and other special celebrations for the parish. It is a beautiful gift to be able to bring the Body and Blood of Christ to His flock!
Members must be Catholics who have received the Sacrament of Confirmation, and they must be active, registered parishioners. Ministers serve at a Mass of their choosing. Each Mass has a captain who is responsible for the ministers at that Mass. Normally, there are two teams of ministers who serve on alternate weeks. EMs meet before Mass for a brief prayer.
There are three parts in the process to become a Eucharistic Minister:

About
The Ministry of Lectors faithfully proclaims God’s Word to the assembled faithful during worship services. The ministry stresses belief in the ever-active power of the proclaimed word. In the words of the Second Vatican Council, “In the liturgy, God is speaking to his people and Christ is still proclaiming his gospel.”
The Ministry of Hospitality is responsible for making sure every person who enters the doors of St Joseph feels welcomed, safe and prepared for worship. Hospitality ministers are here to welcome parishioners and respond to their specific questions or requests for assistance. They also take the collection during each Mass and help to maintain order in the sanctuary before, during and after Mass so that all can have a peaceful and fruitful encounter with Jesus Christ.
Membership is open to all registered parishioners who are 18 years old or older (exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis).
