Sundays Beginning February 19 | 10:15 - 11:30AM
Vatican II is the most important event in the Roman Catholic Church in the twentieth century and arguably in almost five hundred years. The Council met periodically from 1962 to 1965. As the Church celebrates the sixtieth anniversary of Vatican II, this class will examine and discuss:
• The history and issues that led up to the Council
• The reasons Pope John XXIII called the Council
• How the Council operated
• What was discussed
• The sixteen documents the Council produced
• How the Council has been implemented and interpreted
As every pope has affirmed, to be Catholic in the twenty first century is to be living in the Church as understood by Vatican II. We will explore this rich legacy and see why its importance and significance is not diminished by the passing of time but continues to be the link between our ancient faith tradition and the modern world.
